Latvian parliament elects defence minister Vejonis as president
Latvia\’s parliament on Wednesday elected Defence Minister Raimonds Vejonis as the Baltic state\’s new president with 55 of its 100 legislators backing the Green party politician in a secret ballot.
"I\’ll do my best to continue my work to improve Latvia\’s security and promote the welfare of the country as a whole," the 48-year-old Vejonis told parliament after the result of the fifth round of voting was announced.
