The European Olympic Committees have granted the Netherlands the right to host the second edition of the European Games in 2019.
The Dutch Olympic Committee says it will continue discussing its candidature with national and local authorities and should be able to announce whether the bid has government backing around the time the inaugural edition of the games is staged next month in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Dutch Olympic authorities say in a statement that their vision for the games in the Netherlands is for a "mega-sports event that does not have to be megalomaniac."
The European Games in Baku will feature 20 sports at 18 venues. About 6,000 athletes from 49 countries are expected to compete.
The hosting rights were awarded at a meeting Saturday in Turkey.
