Gas pipeline blast kills 16 in southern India

A massive explosion on a state-owned gas pipeline running through the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has killed at least 16 people and gutted scores of houses.
Authorities say the blast hit a pipeline of the Gas Authority of India Limited in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The Friday morning explosion sparked a fire that destroyed homes in the surrounding villages.
The cause of the blast was not immediately known.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion. Writing on Twitter, Modi said he has spoken to the petroleum minister and other officials and asked them to "ensure immediate relief at the accident site."
