A US-led drone strike killed three militants in northern Pakistani tribal region bordering Afghanistan, it was announced on Sunday.
Security officials say the incident happened Monday in the Boya area of North Waziristan, a known stronghold of Taliban and al-Qaida linked militants.
U.S. drone strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly criticized drone attacks as illegal and a violation of its sovereignty, but U.S. officials say the strikes are an important tool in defeating the insurgents.
The U.S. has decreased the frequency of drone strikes in recent months.
