Indian police arrest key terror suspect
Indian intelligence agencies have arrested one of the leaders of a domestic terror group blamed for a series of bombings in the nation\’s cities, a top government official said Thursday.
Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Wednesday that officials tracked down Yasin Bhaktal on India\’s eastern border with Nepal. He is being questioned by police.
Bhaktal is suspected of helping found the Indian Mujahideen, which is thought by some authorities to be linked to the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-Taiba.
Indian Mujahideen is believed to have been responsible for a series of bombings including a 2010 attack on a cafe popular with foreigners in the western Indian city of Pune in which 17 people died.
Bhaktal, who is thought to be in his 30s, has also been linked to attacks in Bangalore and Hyderabad. His arrest comes not long after authorities detained another top terror suspect, Abdul Karim Tunda.
