Russia and Ukraine have traded another night of attacks, with both sides reporting casualties and damage on Saturday.
The regional crisis management team in the Russian border region of Belgorod said three men were killed in Oktyabrsky, just a few kilometres from the border with Ukraine, during two attacks.
In Armavir, in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, authorities said a fire broke out on the premises of an oil depot. No one was injured. The oil facility had already been the target of Ukrainian drone attacks in the past.
Another fire broke out at the port of Taganrog in the southern Rostov region, according to Governor Yury Slyusar. He said two people were injured in the blaze, which affected a tanker, a fuel tank and an administrative building.
The Defence Ministry in Moscow said 127 Ukrainian drones had been shot down overnight over Russian territory and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.
The information cannot be independently verified. The ministry does not typically provide details of any damage.
The Ukrainian Air Force, in turn, reported that Russia had deployed one missile, six cruise missiles and 290 drones during the night.
It said 284 projectiles were intercepted, but nine impacts were reported at seven locations, while debris came down at 10 locations.
Zaporizhzhya Governor Ivan Fedorov said one person was killed, and two others were injured in a Russian drone attack.
Three people were also reported injured following a Russian attack in Kherson.
Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago. As part of its defensive campaign, Ukraine regularly launches counterattacks far beyond the front line into Russian territory, and has for months been focused on targeting Russia’s vital oil industry.
The number of casualties and the extent of the damage from Ukrainian attacks is dwarfed by the devastating consequences of Russia’s strikes on Ukraine.
