Thursday, February 24, 2022 (MADRID) – Russian Federation launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine by land, air and sea, Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under attack. Several Ukrainian civilians reportedly killed, according to multiple news reports.
I strongly condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s unprecedented military attack on Ukraine, which puts at risk countless civilian lives. I deplore the loss of life and the human suffering in Ukraine.
The humanitarian consequences on civilian populations will be devastating. I call on Russia to immediately end its military operations and withdraw all its forces from in and around Ukraine, to fully respect international humanitarian law, and to allow safe and unhindered humanitarian access and assistance to all persons in need. Such use of force and coercion has no place in the 21st century.
I call for a “peaceful resolution” of the situation through “sustained diplomatic efforts” for “long-term peace and stability” in the region and beyond.
