US beats Czech Republic 2-1 to reach semifinals at worlds

The United States reached the semifinals of the hockey world championship on Thursday with a 2-1 shootout win over the Czech Republic.
Auston Matthews scored the only goal in the shootout and also scored in the second period to tie the game. Tomas Zohorna had put the Czechs in front with a penalty shot.
In the shootout, Matthews slid the puck between goaltender Dominik Furch\’s legs. American goalie Keith Kinkaid saved all three Czech shots.
The United States will next play either Canada or Sweden in Saturday\’s semifinals.
Finland also secured a place in the semifinals with a 5-1 win over Denmark. The Finns will next play either Russia or Germany.
