Germany beats Slovakia 5-1, Danish player in hospital

(AP Photo/Dmitri Lovetsky)Germany beat Slovakia 5-1 in Tuesday\’s action at the hockey world championship, which also saw Danish defenseman Jesper Jensen taken to hospital after hitting his head against the glass in a game against Switzerland.
Jensen was caught by a hard check from Switzerland\’s captain Andres Ambuhl early in the third period of the game in Moscow.
"Jesper is currently being examined at the hospital but we have not yet received any diagnosis from our team doctor," Danish team spokesman Claus Christensen told The Associated Press.
Switzerland went on to beat Denmark 3-2 in overtime.
German league players Dominik Kahun and Philip Gogulla each had a goal and an assist as Germany won its first game of the tournament and moved into fourth place in Group B, ahead of the United States in the eight-team standings.
The Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl picked up his first point of the tournament with an assist on Germany\’s third goal.
"He also knows he can play better, but everyone is putting so much pressure on him," Germany coach Marco Sturm said of the 20-year-old Draisaitl. "It\’s not easy. He\’s still a kid."
Germany\’s next opponent is Canada, which scored 20 goals in its first three games of the tournament.
"We\’re going to enjoy tonight our victory today, but tomorrow our focus will be to the next game and it will be a tough one," Sturm said of Thursday\’s game.
Slovakia remains in third place despite the loss, behind Canada and Finland, but coach Zdeno Ciger was scathing about his team\’s performance.
"No discipline. No motivation," Ciger said. "We were slow all over the ice."
The top four teams in each group advance to the playoff round.
In Group A in Moscow, a third-period comeback helped the Swiss pick up their first win.
Finalists in 2013, they had previously lost to Kazakhstan and Norway and seemed on course for another defeat while trailing 2-0 in the third before goals from Yannick Weber and Nino Niederreiter tied the game.
Eric Blum scored the winner with a minute left in overtime.
Switzerland rose to fourth in Group A, one place above Denmark. The Czech Republic leads the group ahead of Russia and Sweden.
