Macedonia\’s main political leaders have reached a final agreement to resolve a protracted and severe political crisis that has roiled the small Balkan country for months.
The agreement reached early Wednesday in European Union-mediated talks calls for early elections to be held April 24 next year, current conservative Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski to step down by the end of this year and a caretaker cabinet to be appointed to organize the elections.
A special prosecutor will be named by September to investigate the leftist opposition\’s claims that the government was behind widespread illegal wire-tapping, a scandal at the heart of the political crisis.
