A Florida burglary suspect wept after the judge overseeing his bond hearing realized they had been childhood friends.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer recognized 49-year-old Arthur Booth during a hearing Thursday.
Judge Mindy Glazer was on the bench. She asked him, “Did you go to Nautilus for middle school?”
Booth seemed shocked, covered his face with his hands and broke down in tears when he realized they’d been classmates.
“I’m sorry to see you there, I always wondered what happened to you, sir,” Glazer said. “This was the nicest kid in middle school.”
On June 29, Booth was seen leaving the scene of a burglary. Police say he failed to pull over as they tried to conduct a traffic stop. He then reportedly drove his vehicle onto the median and drove into oncoming traffic lanes before jumping out of his vehicle.
In court, Glazer said Booth’s behavior was not the childhood classmate she remembers.
“He was the best kid in middle school,” she said. “I used to play football with him. All the kids looked up to him. And look what has happened. I’m so sorry to see you here.”
As he continued to cry, Glazer delivered a message she hopes will turn his life around.
“What’s sad is how old we’ve become. Good luck to you sir, I hope you’re able to come out of this OK and just lead a lawful life.”

Booth was held Friday on $43,000 bond on several charges of burglary and fleeing police. According to a police report, he had been seen leaving the scene of a burglary and failed to pull over during a traffic stop.
Miami-Dade County jail records did not show whether he had an attorney.
