Spain, France triathletes win opening World Cup races

Tamara Gomez Garrido of Spain and David Hauss of France won season-opening World Cup triathlon races at Mooloolaba on Australia\’s Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
It was Gomez Garrido\’s first World Cup win of her career, while Hauss finally won the Mooloolaba race after finishing third twice, fourth twice and sixth once.
Gomez Garrido finished in a time of 1 hour, 1 minute, 42 seconds, four seconds ahead of Amelie Kretz of Canada. Australia\’s Ashleigh Gentle was third in 1:02.01.
Hauss won in a time of 55 minutes, 22 seconds, two seconds ahead of Jacob Birtwhistle of Australia. Vicente Hernandez of Spain was third, nine seconds behind the winner.
Both races were over the non-Olympic distances of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer cycle and 5-kilometer run.
