India wins toss, bats against England
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat on a hard pitch at the start of the fourth test against England at Old Trafford on Thursday, resisting the temptation to bowl with overhead cloud cover after the toss was delayed for 30 minutes by light rain.
With the five-test series tied 1-1, India has made three changes from the 266-run defeat at the Rose Bowl.
Varun Aaron replaces Mohammed Shami in the bowling attack, spinner Ravichandran Ashwan is in for Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir replaces Shikhar Dhawan and will open the batting alongside Murali Vijay.
England had not won in 10 tests before the Rose Bowl, and is unchanged from that match. Captain Alastair Cook said he would have chosen to bat had he won the toss, but hopes to exploit the weather conditions.
