Kathmandu, Nepal – A massive landslide in northeastern Nepal left at least eight people dead and dozens missing on Saturday, putting several villages at risk of flash floods due to debris blocking a major river, officials said.
Three dozen houses were said to be buried under the landslide, with at least 50 others washed out by the river.

There are fears that the death toll will rise, as rescue work continues in the district of Sindhupalchowk.
Sindhupalchowk is 120 km (75 miles) east of Kathmandu. Landslides are common during the June-September monsoon season in Nepal. Dozens of people die every year from flooding and landslides.
