A Frenchman has reportedly been arrested over a suspected anti-Semitic attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels that killed four people.
Two of the three victims of the May 24 attack were Israeli tourists from Tel Aviv. A fourth person was injured.
A French police source said on Sunday that a 29-year-old man was arrested in the southern French city of Marseilles on Friday. He had a Kalashnikov and another gun with him, the Reuters news agency reported.
French media reported that the man was suspected of having stayed in Syria with armed groups in 2013.
"This is a relief," Joel Rubinfeld, head of the Belgian League against Antisemitism told BFM TV, saying he had received confirmation of the news.
"But this is also worrying us … it is is crucial that countries who have citizens who have gone to Syria take all necessary measures to make sure this does not happen again."
Belgian officials previously released a thirty-second video clip from the museum\’s security cameras showing a man wearing a dark cap and a blue jacket enter the building, take a Kalashnikov rifle out of a bag and shooting into a room before walking out.
The attack led to calls for greater security at Jewish institutions and tougher legislation in dealing with anti-Semitic crime.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, who was one of the first people to arrive at the scene, said: "You cannot help think that when we see a Jewish museum, you think of an anti-Semitic act. But the investigation will have to show the causes."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Francois Hollande also condemned the killings.
Belgium has a Jewish population of some 42,000, about half of whom live in the capital.
