Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine has died at the age of 96 in her home in Carmel, California.
Fontaine\’s assistant said she died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday.
Among Fontaine\’s most memorable films was the Alfred Hitchcock picture "Suspicion," co-starring Carry Grant, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1942. She was also nominated for best actress for her role in Hitchcock\’s "Rebecca" in 1940 and for Edmund Goulding\’s "The Constant Nymph" in 1943.
She was almost as well-known for her lifelong feud with her famous older sister, actress Olivia de Havilland.
