Israeli soldiers have killed three Palestinians during clashes at a refugee camp in the West Bank.

An Israeli police spokesman says officers were attempting to arrest a suspect at the Qalandiya camp near Ramallah Monday when hundreds of Palestinians confronted them with rocks and firebombs. The officers then tried to disperse the crowd.

Hospital officials in Ramallah say the victims were hit by live ammunition.

Palestinian officials condemned the incident.

A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the killings could impact peace talks between the two sides, and urged the United States to help keep the process going.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since the beginning of 2013. Israeli forces have killed 14 Palestinians in the occupied territory this year, most of them in clashes, compared with three killed in the same period in 2012.
Most recent was killed in Jenin refugee camp in a similar arrest raid less than a week ago.
