Jason Dufner held off fellow-American Jim Furyk Sunday to win one of golf\’s four major events – the PGA Championship.
Despite bogeys on the final two holes at the Oak Hill Country Club in upper New York state, Dufner fired a two-under-par 68 on the final round to beat Furyk by two shots.
Dufner\’s four-round score of 10-under, 270 is the best ever on the course in Rochester, breaking the 274 shot by Jack Nicklaus at the 1980 PGA Championship.
Dufner\’s second-round 63 on Friday tied the best round ever fired in a major event, boosting him toward his first major victory.
Sunday\’s win also helped to ease memories of a devastating loss in the 2011 PGA Championship when he blew a five-shot lead with just four holes to play, losing in a playoff to his good friend Keegan Bradley. Bradley was among to first to congratulate Dufner after Sunday\’s victory.
