All over the world, International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March. The purpose of these celebrations is to show love, respect and understanding towards women. It is also a celebration of women’s economic, political and social achievements.
The U.N. calls the occasion a time to reflect on progress made and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
Every year on 8 March, thousands of events are organized all around the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. An international web of rich and assorted local activities connects women throughout the world ranging from business conferences, political rallies, networking events and government activities through theatric performances, local women’s craft markets, fashion parades and more.
This year\’s International Women\’s Day theme, "Equality for women is progress for all" emphasizes how gender equality, empowerment of women, women\’s full enjoyment of human rights and the eradication of poverty are essential to economic and social development. It also stresses the vital role of women as agents of development.
