Suspected US drone strike kills 7 militants in Pakistan

Pakistan intelligence officials say a pair of missiles launched by a U.S. drone hit a militant hideout near the Afghan border and killed seven suspected militants.

Authorities say two missiles were fired Friday in the strike on North Waziristan\’s Dargah Mandi, an area known as a stronghold of the al-Qaida-linked Haqqani network.
The U.S. drone strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly criticized drone attacks as illegal and a violation of its sovereignty, but U.S. officials say the strikes are an important tool in defeating the insurgents.
The U.S. has decreased its use of the drone strikes in recent months.
